1 - JVM - Your computer must have a running JVM.

3 - Must PURCHASE a TreFre Medical (TFM) software license from TreFre Inc.

Install TFM

The medical community has invested in a wide variety of computers and operating systems and just because HIPPA standards are now required, the computer systems shouldn't have to change. It's hard and expensive to keep up with the continuously changing technology. For this reason, it's our objective to minimize change, eliminate paper, complexity and effort. To accomplish this, we selected a technology that is not constrained by the limits of a single computer system. We selected JAVA for our TFM application development. To utilize Java programs, a computer must have a valid Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed.

If your computer is an Apple running OSX, a JVM is already installed. If your computer is a PC running Windows, the download will automatically include and install an appropriate JVM on your computer. You do not have to do anything special to make this happen. The only downside on the PC is that the TFM download file (with JVM) is considerably larger.

When you select Install on the web page you will see the image at the right. The button in the center of the screen below the TreFre Medical title will tell you which is the version you should install. It may take a few seconds for this selection to be displayed as the installer is determining which computer you have. You may select this button and follow the instructions or you can select from one of the other options displayed in the image below.

There are four columns in this image. The first column titled Platform is not selectable but is simply an indicator that there is a row in the table for PC Windows installs and another row for OSX installers. The second column is titled includes JavaVM and is for PC installs This link is where you can select to download an installer (with JVM). The third column allows you to download an installer for an Apple OSX system. The final column just displays some of the last sections in this web document. The actual numbers shown in the image may not match the numbers actually displayed on the web page. This is due to the fact that the size of the TFM application changes from version to version.

Based on which computer platform you are installing on, may see a variant of the window shown on the left. You may answer No in this window. You may also see a window requesting permission for Java to perform some secure operations on your computer. It is OK to answer to this question. All that is happening is that the downwload file is being prepared for download to your computer..

TFM Windows Instructions

After downloading, double-click TFMInst.exe . It is not uncommon to have a large delay in time (up to 20 minutes) after 99% of the install file has been downloaded. Since the file is quite large, the PC Operating System make take considerable time to save it to the disk.

The compressed installer should be recognized by Stuffit Expander and should automatically be expanded after downloading. If it is not expanded, you can expand it manually using StuffIt Expander 6.0 or later.
If you have any problems launching the installer once it has been expanded, make sure that the compressed installer was expanded using Stuffit Expander. If you continue to have problems, please contact TreFre Inc..

To run TFM, you must install the HSQLDB database program on one computer in the office. It can be the same computer that you are installing TFM or it can be a different one. When selecting the SQL database installer from TreFre web pages you will see the image at the left. Select the button at labeled "Start Installer..." and follow instructions.

In a similar fashion to the options screen discussed above, you will be presented with an identical table and four columns for downloading the HSQLDB installer. You should make the same selection as above (PC or OSX). A JVM will be included automatically in the downloaded installer file for the PC. If you install TFM and the HSQLDB on the same computer, the second JVM will simply replace the first one that gets installed. The JVMs are the same.
