How come TFM is not working after I install the application? It keeps asking if I want to configure the database preferences.

Common problem: You need to run the second installer to install the database. Click here to run the installer.

Long Explanation: If you don't have an existing database that you want to use or an existing TFM installation you can access over a network you need to install a database server to store all of your data. TreFre does provide an open source Java database with an installer called HSQLDB. Click here to install the database server. If you have an existing database see the documentation for configuring the database in the preferences.

How do I install a Java Virtual Machine (JVM)?

Any computer that is running either the TreFre Medical application or the HSQLDB TFM database must have a current JVM installed. If you decide to install the HSQLDB TFM database on the same computer as a TFM client, you only need to install the JVM one time, during the first installation. During the second installation, you can use the "Select Other" button and choose the JVM that was previously installed. For more details, go to the TFM web page, select "Download" and then select the "Example Installation" link to determine the name and location of the JVM that gets installed. You can also refer to the TFM user manual for installation help.

If I already have a JVM, do I need to install a new one?

It may not be necessary however, JVM technology is continually changing and TreFre Medical will always install the most recent version. To guarantee optimal performance of TFM on your computer, we highly recommend that you install the JVM that TreFre Inc. makes available for you.

How do I decide which computers to install the HSQLDB database and which to install the TFM application on?

You need to determine which computers the staff will be using. Any one of those could also run the TFM database however, for performance reasons it might be beneficial to select a computer to run the HSQLDB database by itself. This could be a computer in a back office someplace rather than one in the main office.

Why does a screen open every time I login on the computer that the TFM database server is installed on?

That screen is the database server running (Windows PC's only). If you do not wish to see it, you can minimize it. If you close it however, the database will quit functioning and any TreFre Medical clients that are currently running will receive a connection ("Broken Pipe") error.
